Advanced Prostate Cancer Diagnosis – Gleason Score Results
In my wanderings through internet health forums and blogs It always surprises me that men questioning the severity of their prostate cancer or the prognosis given invariably give emphasis to prostate specific antigen (PSA) results but ignore their Gleason score. This is even more surprising when we consider just how unreliable PSA readings can be.
Whilst it is also true that Gleason scores resulting from the testing of identical samples by different laboratories can also vary they are nevertheless a far more accurate indication of the severity of the cancer and therefor, prove more valuable when assessing ones options and a future course of action.
One of the difficulties with understanding just how the Gleason score works is simply getting someone to explain it in a manner that is easily understood. I think the following article sets out to do just that. But first I will include a small image illustrating the Gleason scoring graphically…
