Vegetables Essential for cancer protection

October 9th, 2008

Regular readers will know that I am very positive about the cancer prevention and cancer fighting attributes of a broad range of vegetables. Even though my dear wife ensures that I eat a variety of vegetables with my meals she also prepares quite delicious drinks in the mixer of raw veggies and also, raw fruits and berries.

Perhaps the main reason people in general do not regularly consume sufficient daily amounts of either vegetables or fruits, to help ward off or manage disease, is a well ingrained reliance on their doctor to treat all health issues with drugs. Many have not yet recognized the need to take care of - and to be responsible for - their own health and well being.

Vegetables with the highest anti-cancer potential make up only a “miniscule” part of the diet, and measures should be taken to boost consumption, says a new study.

Writing in the journal Food Chemistry, Canadian researchers agree that extracts from cruciferous, dark green and Allium vegetables show the highest anti-cancer potential.

Vitamin D Prevents and Also Stops Cancer

October 4th, 2008

This study really confirms what has been known about vitamin D and its ability to both prevent cancer and reverse it, and that includes prostate cancer of course.

I am very fortunate in that I live in Queensland, Australia, where the sun shines almost daily, even in winter, so the need for vitamin D supplementation is not normally called for. However, this report emphasizes fairly high dose rates of vitamin D and as it is questionable as to how much vitamin D the body is able to absorb directly from the sun at any given point in time, I am now thinking that I should look into the wisdom of taking vitamin D by way of supplements. Particularly considering my history with skin cancer reducing my capacity for direct sun exposure.

I guess that first I will need to audit my present regimen to ascertain just how much I am currently getting from all sources. But I am not concerned about overdoing the recommended dose rate (RDA) - which is fairly subjective and often disputed - as over-dosing would be easily detected and rectified.

Vitamin D Stops Cancer; Cuts Risk In Half
American Cancer Society Drags its Feet

(OMNS, October 2, 2008) A new study of 3,299 persons has shown that those with higher levels of vitamin D cut their risk of dying from cancer in half. (1) Another recent study shows that ample intake of vitamin D, about 2,000 IU per day, can cut breast cancer incidence by half. (2) Still more research found that inadequate Vitamin D is “associated with high incidence rates of colorectal cancer” and specifically urges that “prompt public health action is needed to increase intake of Vitamin D-3 to 1000 IU/day.” (3)

Many Cancer Victims Have Bad Eating Habits

October 2nd, 2008

This article from Orthomolecular News
is very interesting indeed and certainly worth digesting - if you’ll pardon the pun.

Toward the end of the article there are numerous links to sites with related subject matter. They are well worth the browsing time.

Most Cancer Patients Eating Wrong
Hot Dogs Promote Cancer; Vitamins Prevent Cancer

(OMNS, September 30, 2008) 75% of all Americans do not even eat five servings a day of fruits or vegetables. That is bad enough. It is even worse with cancer patients. A study of over 9,000 survivors of six different types of cancer showed that only 15% to 19% were meeting the “5-A-Day” recommendation. That means that 81% to 85% were not. The researchers commented that these findings indicate that even a cancer diagnosis may fail to improve fruit and vegetable consumption. (1)

No doubt that you will have read many instructions over the years about how to physically examine yourself for changes to your testicles, but did the message really sink in? I doubt it. Research indicates the majority of men simply do not check their testicles for lumps or other changes.

Well, after you view this short video I feel sure you will remember to do it regularly.

The message is the same but the messenger very different to anything you may have experienced in the past. ENJOY!

(NaturalNews) Black raspberries provide a powerful mix of cancer-inhibiting compounds. New research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center was conducted to test the effect of black raspberries on the genetic activity of rats provoked to develop cancer of the esophagus.

The researchers split the rats into two groups. One group was fed a normal diet while the other was fed a diet with 5 percent freeze-dried black raspberries. After two weeks, half of the rats in each group were injected with a chemical carcinogen that induces esophageal cancer.
