From time to time I am asked why, when writing about PROSTATE CANCER treatment I refer to drug companies and some doctor in somewhat disparaging terms. Well, apart from my own experiences I do research on medical issues on a daily basis and also, subscribe to numerous, on-line, medical and health newsletters from which I get my information.
For a number of years I have been aware that one needs to examine and test all drug company studies and associated medical literature, particularly as to the funding source. Where the funding source cannot be established then one must be especially circumspect when dealing with that material.
The following article well illustrates this concern…
Companies Covertly Influence the Content of Medical Literature
by David Gutierrez
(NaturalNews) Pharmaceutical companies regularly carry out every aspect of a study on their products, then solicit academics to put their names on the final papers in order to disguise their involvement, according to an essay published in the journal PLoS Medicine. Author Sergio Sismondo calls this practice “ghost management,” to distinguish it from mere ghost writing.
“In extreme cases, drug companies pay for trials by contract research organizations (CROs), analyze the data in-house, have professionals write manuscripts, ask academics to serve as authors of those manuscripts, and pay communication companies to shepherd them through publication in the best journals,” Sismondo writes. “The resulting articles affect the conclusions found in the medical literature, and are used in promoting drugs to doctors.”

As we know, two of the more serious problems following surgery or other conventional medical treatment for PROSTATE CANCER is that of impotence and erectile dysfunction, leading many to resort to heavily promoted, doctor sponsored drugs, such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.
The following report will make many think twice about taking these drugs lest their erectile dysfunction is further compromised with a hearing dysfunction.

The FDA has announced an immediate change to the labeling of drugs in a family that includes popular impotence drugs, warning that they may lead to sudden, severe and potentially permanent hearing loss.
The erectile dysfunction drugs in the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) class include Pfizer’s Viagra, Eli Lilly’s Cialis and GlaxoSmithKline’s Levitra. Also receiving a label change will be blood pressure drug Revatio.

The following article confirms benefits derived from regular consumption of vitamin K2, primarily from green leafy vegetable such as Lettuce, Spinach and Broccoli, not only in the prevention of PROSTATE CANCER but also in the management of it once you have it.
The more studies of this kind I find the happier I am as it confirms my long held belief that the answer to the cancer scourge will come from nature itself and not the chemical substitutes provided by big pharma and conventional medicine. With more research bodies and scientists than ever before now looking to confirm existing, well tried, holistic remedies and explore new ones we may yet have a chance to rid mankind of cancer.
By Stephen Daniells
09/04/2008- An increased intake of vitamin K2 may reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 35 per cent, suggest results from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC).
The potential benefits of K2 were more pronounced for advanced prostate cancer, while vitamin K1 intake did not offer any prostate benefits, report the researchers from the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg.
The findings, based on data from the 11,319 men taking part in the EPIC Heidelberg cohort, are published in this month’s issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The following report I will leave to your own study and interpretation. I have found very little evidence to say that chemotherapy and radiation therapy have any particular benefit for PROSTATE CANCER, nor, for that matter, many other forms of cancer. And I am not alone in that belief. A few years ago, the US Oncologists Association surveyed their members and found that over 70% (I don’t recall the exact figure) said that if they, themselves, had cancer, they would not have chemotherapy treatment. Enough said!
Extract from The Moss Reports:
Cancer patients are frequently told by their oncologists not to take antioxidants while undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Supposedly, antioxidants counteract the beneficial free radicals that are generated by conventional treatment, thereby interfering with its effectiveness. A small number of scientists have argued the opposite, suggesting that antioxidants do not generally interfere with cancer treatment but, rather, enhance its effectiveness while sparing normal cells from damage. It is one of the great dividing lines between conventional and CAM-oriented practitioners.
Recent research from the University of Rochester has contradicted the idea that antioxidants interfere and has added credibility to the idea that they enhance treatment effectiveness. It thus adds to a growing body of data, both experimental and clinical, that antioxidants should be used by cancer patients.

An essential aspect of my blog, according to comments from my readers, is my alternative therapy regimen and the results I’m getting from it.
Naturally, guys traveling the same route as me with benign prostate hyperplasia BPH. and/or related PROSTATE CANCER issues will want to know what is working or not working, as the case may be, so I thought I’d let you know what seems to be working for me.
The daily routine that follows may appear to be somewhat pedantic and boring but following it doesn’t necessarily require one to be inflexible with it. Variety is the spice of life, or so they say. So therefor, as long as the principles are adhered to a diversion here and there is desirable, perhaps even necessary, from a psychological viewpoint.
As with most things, once a routine becomes a habit it is much easier to handle.
