Noscapine – A Natural Prostate Cancer Treatment
I find the following article both interesting and disturbing. As many readers will know, noscapine, is a non-addictive element of opium and a naturally-occurring substance. The following research shows it has considerable potential as a treatment for prostate cancer. Unfortunately though, the chance of it ever being fully developed for human studies and subsequent use is minimized by the greed of the major pharmaceutical companies who will not develop any naturally occurring substance into a proven product unless they can claim a patent on it. They much prefer to synthesize the substance and develop a drug to do the same thing but one which will also cause side affects, thereby requiring more drugs of different descriptions to be purchased to ameliorate those affects.
Yes, of course companies must make a profit to stay in business but surely it is time all the major drug producers got together – in common enterprise – to devise a methodology whereby the natural goodness and miraculous healing powers of mother nature can best be made use of for the betterment of mankind without individual companies being unfairly disadvantaged. Or am I being too idealistic? Just a dreamer perhaps?
We see so much evidence daily now of the greed exhibited by senior executives of major corporations
throughout the world and their sublime indifference to the sensitivities or needs of the societies in which they operate. Over recent years the major tobacco companies have had to bite the bullet and take a few backward steps in their otherwise unbridled onslaught on the health and longevity of their converts. Isn’t it high time that Big Pharma was held to account too. I feel that day is not too far distant!!
Enjoy the article. I’m off to bed….
Cough Medicine Ingredient Could Effectively Treat Prostate Cancer, Study Shows
ScienceDaily (Dec. 21, 2008) — A study published December 18 in the December issue of the European medical journal Anticancer Research demonstrates that an ingredient used in a common cough suppressant may be useful in treating advanced prostate cancer. Researchers found that noscapine, which has been used in cough medication for nearly 50 years, reduced tumor growth in mice by 60% and limited the spread of tumors by 65% without causing harmful side effects.

Noscapine has been known to help prostate cancer for several decades. As you mention there is no profit motive involved thus most doctors know nothing about it. It is an ‘over the counter drug’ but from my research the only reliable source is from Israel. You can set up a ‘google alert’ for ‘noscapine’. You might also want to set one up for ‘pomegranage juice’ since it seems almost as good.
