Update - July 08 My Prostate Cancer Treatment
Yesterday’s post dealt with my diet regimen and to some, I guess it might look a bit too extreme - and that I can understand - but not so extreme if you take it as a guide and not as something to be strictly adhered to. As I said “Be reasonable and be flexible”.
Today I thought that I’d talk about my recent visit to my Urologist for my six monthly review and also, take a snap-shot of my present health issues.
In my December review with my urologist, my wife and I elected to continue with my watchful waiting for my advanced (Gleason grade 9) prostate cancer, being, as we were, more than happy with the progress to-date. Progress that is, in-so-far as I was not experiencing any particular difficulty or adverse indications. Furthermore, my general health and well-being was sound with energy and stamina levels very good.
However, there was one issue - a newly discovered kidney stone - that had to take precedence over my prostate, even though there was no obvious evidence of its presence other than on ultra-sound scan. December last, the stone measured some 6mm but it is now 8mm and located in the lower left lobe of the kidney on my left side. Its importance is heightened by the fact that I only have the one kidney, the other taken by cancer in 1995.
The presumed nature of the stone, Uric Acid, indicates that it should be possible to dissolve it using a prescription drug, Allopurinol (Allosig) tabs 300 mg, further assisted by Sodibic capsules 840mg, a sodium bicarbonate urinary alkaliniser, to prevent further acidic buildup of the stone.
Alas, I regrettably didn’t do then as I would usually do with a new, medical prescription; that is to research it on the net, especially the manufacturer’s specs. At least, I didn’t until I was five months into the treatment. I then found that vitamin C should not be taken with Allopurinol as it can greatly diminish, or even negate, the desired result. And all this time I had been consuming very high doses of vitamin C through my berry and fruit juices on a daily basis. Small wonder the stone was growing in size and not reducing.
