Lycopene, Zinc Linked to Better Prostate Health
As with all reports of this nature one has to first consider not only its origins but also its funding source. Published in the reputable, American Journal of Epidemiology, the study is by various authors, led by Alan Kristal, from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. There is no mention of a funding source.
To me, this report further evidences the confused state of affairs regarding research findings into benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and, of course, prostate cancer.

The “weak evidence” for lycopene does appear inline with previous findings. Indeed, epidemiological evidence has suggested that tomato-based foods can protect men from prostate cancer. One study found that men eating four to five tomato based-dishes per week were 25 per cent less likely to develop prostate cancer compared to men eating tomatoes only rarely.
