Selenium may protect against artery furring

As many of you will know, I have been taking selenium as an essential element of my natural health regimen for quite some time and more particularly, since experiencing heart problems in late March, when I increased the dosage substantially, with no obvious ill affects.

Although pronounced as being quite serious at the time my heart problems now appear to have abated with results from a recent myocardial perfusion scan with Thallium - 201, indicating any such issues as being somewhat innocuous. I anticipate getting a more conclusive result and prognosis shortly but at the moment, it does seem to me that my regimen, targeting - since March - both prostate and heart, it has come up trumps, dissolving, or at least minimizing, the arterial blockage.

Anyhow, given my recent experience I thought this article worth a mention, particularly with DVT being a very common problem.

25/09/2007 - Selenium supplements may reduce the risk of heart disease by inhibiting the oxidation of LDL (”bad”) cholesterol, suggests a small study from Italy.

Writing in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases the Italian researchers report that 14 healthy subjects taking a daily selenium supplement did not experience significant in oxidatively modified LDL, compared to a two per cent increase observed prior to supplementation.
