My Latest Full Blood Count Results
Well folks, I had my latest full blood count this week. It produced both good and bad results.
On the good side my cholesterol is a very healthy 3.5 and all other markers are excellent also.
On the not so good side my Prostate Specific Antigen. PSA has gone up from 8.40 on
14 December 2006 to 11.5. on 09 Feb 2007.
Previous readings were 6.90 on 10 Aug 2006 & 7.30 on 07 Apr 2006.
Quite evidently, the trend is an upward one.
So what do I make of the PSA readings?
Well, not much really. As mentioned in my earlier postings, I have little confidence as to the accuracy or meaningfulness of PSA tests as they relate to prostate cancer. A swollen gland, yes, but prostate cancer, probably not.
An internet search will reveal to you many medical studies which have shown all too often, that a person previously diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, may well have a PSA reading well below the supposed safety margin of 4.0, and quite often, will have a zero reading.
Yet another factor to consider is the one relating to alternative cancer treatments aimed at killing cancer cells and the resultant affects that that may have on the prostate in the process. In my case I had experienced inflammation and swelling of the prostate gland for three years, probably more, and long before my diagnosis of cancer or my interest in alternative medicine. But that, I believe, is par for the course.
It is my understanding that when cancer cells are attacked with alternative therapies, they will become more pronounced and worsen, hence there will be more swelling and inflammation of the gland. In terms of prostate cancer I believe it is because of this action that the PSA reading will rise. Perhaps giving cause for immediate concern and with a consequent urging by a medical doctor for surgery.
However, this worsening, or increased sickness of the cancer cells, is the very thing that alerts the immune system to the presence of the cancer - even though it had not previously been aware of its presence - and the cancer cells are targeted for attack and destruction. Yet another action that will initially cause further swelling and inflammation. And further encouragement for urgent surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, no doubt.
Well, I am very happy with our decision, that is, my darling wife and me, to fight the good fight, using alternative medicine only. And even if my life is curtailed by a few more years doing it this way at least I’ll die healthy (grin) not filled to the brim with deadly prescription drugs and all that modern medicine can throw at me. But having said that, I am very happy to note that statistics indicate, quite clearly, that those who chose the “watchful waiting” approach will invariably, live marginally longer than those who go down the ‘commercialized’ conventional medicine route.
Footnote: I have just commenced a course of Rene M. Caise ESSIAC Herbal Supplement Extract Formula, together with Raintree Nutrition GRAVIOLA MAX Herbal Supplement. Both products have an excellent reputation for killing cancer cells. Well, we shall see!
Here is an interesting quote:
• “A study of four hundred cancer cases that went into spontaneous remission revealed cures which had little in common. Some people drank grape juice or swallowed massive doses of vitamin C; others prayed, took herbal remedies, or simply cheered themselves on. These very diverse patients did have one thing in common, though. At a certain point in their disease, they suddenly knew, with complete certainty, that they were going to get better, as if the disease were merely a mirage, and the patient suddenly passed beyond it into a space where fear and despair and all sickness were nonexistent.”
